This page is for discussing the contents of Wiki Resources.

There are several entries already on this wiki that link out to *wiki* specific resources, I was kind of hoping to make a list of *Davis* resources. You can choke a whole pen of hogs on the generic wiki philosophy to be found in Wiki Community and in links like Meatball Wiki. There is a distinct lack of non-computer, non-wiki oriented "here's stuff in and about Davis that could go on the wiki". I'm not sure that stuffing this entry with more meta wiki ethics, philosophical musings and theoretical essays (and links to entire sites devoted to the same) is necessary. I.e., there should be a place for non-geek, non-wiki things... stuff like "the Yolo Agriculture Society1 hosts a bi-monthly speaker who talks about the history of the area". Attending something like that with a pen and notepad would beat Google and Wanted Pages all to hell in terms of finding interesting things about Davis. There are already volumes of "about wikis", "wiki philosophy" and "wiki resources" on the Davis Wiki... it might be a good idea to just have at least this one authorship oriented entry be about Davis, and have Davis specific sources rather than generic links to "Collaborative Authorship on Web 2.0", an article on the blog of Interweb M. Portent.

Let's put it this way: if you want to talk to a person who was alive and living in Davis when the vote for Japanese Internment happened and get their quote on the wiki, a link to the best "how to deal with edit conflicts" essay isn't going to help. If you want to find somebody who can donate a photo of the original arboretum layout, knowing about the photo request entry isn't going to help. As of right now, editors are relying heavily on Google and other internet based sources. There's a imperial buttload2 of information in the groups, libraries and people of Davis. And some of them, like that person who was there during WWII... well, there's a limited amount of time to gather some of those primary stories. —JabberWokky
