Large Pepperoni Woodstock's Pizza has to be the most popular pizza joint in Davis. Besides decent pizza, their menu offers salads, chicken wings, and frosted "cinnabread." For us health nuts they also offer a whole-wheat crust at no additional cost. Sadly, it's not uncommon for the folded over portion of the crust to take about as much surface area as the cheese.
Woodstock's is generally loud and full of life. Open late, they offer free wireless as well as free refills. Combined with the fact they also serve beer, this makes Woodstock's and Steve's Pizza are the only places in Davis where you can surf the web, drink a beer, and eat pizza. Unfortunately, after 9PM they used to raise the prices for a slice of pizza to $2.90 (from $2.25 during the day) to squeeze money out of drunk people. To boot, late at night the quality of service goes way down: food takes FOREVER to get to you and the bar tenders are often very brusque.
Mon-Fri 12:00-2:00PM they have an All-You-Can-Eat pizza buffet for $6.99
Delivery costs $2.00 (plus tip, maybe). They'll even deliver to campus. The driver will call you up when they get there so you don't have to wait outside. If you want to pay for delivery using a credit card, they now ask for your credit card number and expiration date over the telephone. The safety of this measure may seem sketchy, but it's likely safer than their previous at-the-door, carbon-copying method.
On a side note, Woodstock's Pizza also has six other locations in California: San Diego, Santa Barbara, Irvine, Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, and Chico. An interesting fact, in Santa Barbara they change the name of their beloved pizza from "Causeway Classic" to "IV Classic" (IV stands for Isla Vista, the collegiate equivalent of a cess pool located adjacent to the UCSB campus).
An interesting fact is that printed on the bottom of the large pizza boxes are biblical quotes, similar to In-N-Out.

History
Woodstock's was not always the size it is now. When the The Velvet Elvis, a bar opened by the owners of Ground Zero was closed for selling to minors, Woodstock's bought the property and remodeled. In the older right-hand side, the main eating area used to be raised about a foot above the regular floor.

One time, I walked into Woodstock's around closing time — which is incidentally bar closing time — and ordered a pizza. I left with it and before I could cross the street a brigade of 3 huge, drunk men were pushing me and trying to steal my pizza. I handed the pizza to my female friend and she ran off with it as I distracted them. - PhilipNeustrom

Sorry Phil, I was really hungry —JamesSchwab
2005-03-05 09:48:45 I've seen Woodstock's drivers come into Kemper Hall numerous times so I'm not sure if they really won't go into buildings. —AndrewChen
2005-03-21 00:44:52 From what I have heard/read, there are Woodstock's on the east coast as well. There's a split between the coasts, with the original owner dying as the west coast ones were being started and the local backers taking over. Anybody know the details? —JabberWokky
2005-06-06 12:27:35 My husband and I own Woodstock's, so I'll give you the lowdown. BTW, thanks for the great comments about Woodstock's. And yes, we do deliver to the residence halls and any other campus buildings, and our drivers are supposed to call when they get there so no one has to wait outside. We'd like to be on the East Coast some day, but right now we're only in California. However, the original Woodstock's is in Corvallis, OR and owned by Carol Lee Woodstock. If you go to our website you can get the scoop "About Us" that explains how we came to own the business. But yes, JabberWokky, Chuck Woodstock died in a private plane crash in 1985, just before Davis opened. Jeff Ambrose (who was GM in the San Diego Woodstock's at the time) eventually became President, and then bought out the other family members to become owner in 2001.
Can you tell me how we can give you some better photos of Woodstock's??? I can't say I'm happy with that pepperoni pic. One of our Woodstock's mantras is that our pepperonis should be kissing, not..., but some of these babies aren't close enough to kiss. And our crust is supposed to be 1" around the edges. I can see it's time to review our quality standards in Davis! Oh, and I forgot to mention in my other comment that we have five locations in California college towns — SD, IV, SLO, Chico, and of course, Davis. —LauraAmbrose

The picture of the pepperoni pizza will likely remain though as it is a genuine picture from a user and is not meant to be an advertising photograph. Any pictures you upload (since you're affiliated with the company) might well be erased as advertising though. As far as I know not business owner has used the wiki yet. Nice to see you! —JackHaskel
2005-06-06 17:43:00 Laura, thanks for contributing to the Wiki community! I'm very glad to hear that you're going to look into the crust width issue. For a periodic and independent assessment of the crust size at Woodstock's, please refer to the FSI calculations on the Pizza page. I put the measurements from the pepperoni pizza above, and hopefully people will periodically update their measurements as well. —CraigBrozinsky
2005-06-06 19:29:52 Woodstocks, while a fine place to purchase a liter of quality beer, makes good though expensive pizza. Woodstock's has never seemed to me as inexpensive pizza. This may just be price for quality, but there's much cheaper pizza out there. Beer's awesome though. Sampling before you buy is a great idea. —DanielMedinaCleghorn
2005-06-26 09:54:13 Woodstock's in Chico now? I know Woodstock's has been around in Chico since at least 1992. My brother used to take me there after getting a haircut when I was 6 or 7. —LuisdelaTorre
2005-09-11 17:54:30 I thought the name of the place was merely a coincidence. I'm tickled that the Woodstock's here is actually a chain that started in Corvallis, where I got my undergraduate. They had the second best pizza in Corvallis, right after American Dream Pizza. —AaronCooke
2005-09-11 22:24:17 Woodstock's is my favorite pizza in Davis. I love the sauce and how it tucks up under the outer crust. MMMM. —JanelleAlvstadMattson
2005-09-15 14:21:28 What's the deal with the bible verses being printed on the box? Woodstock's sounds like it has great pizza, but I'm leery of being proselytized at while I'm having my lunch, even passively. —NancyWallace
2005-09-15 14:36:49 Really? I've never noticed that. Can you post a photo? I know In-n-out does that... —ArlenAbraham
2005-09-15 14:44:05 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's Woody Wings. —CarlMcCabe
2005-09-15 15:01:41 In the beginning God created the dough.
And the dough was without toppings, and void; and nothingness was upon the face of the dough. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the pizza.
And God said, Let there be toppings and there was toppings.
And God saw the toppings, that they were good: and God divided the sauce from the cheese.
And God called the sauce Marinara, and the cheese he called Mozzarella. And the cheese and the sauce were the first pizza. —ArlenAbraham
2005-10-03 12:59:52 I'm disappointed in the change in Woodstock's delivery times since this was the standard food option between 12-2 AM. The Garlic Bird is my personal favorite but it's always interesting to call in for an order. The price is almost always different so we always have one person order the food so he knows what to say to get the price as consistent as possible. Really odd. —LiRic
2005-10-03 13:27:16 Pizza was pretty good. I had a bad experience though. Through a delivery... They over charged 4 dollars per pizza with a delivery charge... Now with two pizzas that comes out to be +9 dollars! They compensated with a X-large combo, but I still wanted my money back. They said "they couldn't refund cash" -_- that delivery boy NEEDS TO READ SIGNS. but either way, good pizza, they recompensated me and my suite mates. The crust is excellent, best crust I've ever had. —AlexKang
2005-10-04 14:33:01 Their Hawaiian pizza is the best Hawaiian pizza I've ever had. Very tasty. —AlexPomeranz
2005-10-11 03:24:36 Great pizza, I used to get a free slice every now and then when I was delivering their newspaper for the enterprise. —IanKoller
2005-10-24 01:41:07 I've had pizza there a couple of times and it was very poor quality the toppings kept separating from the crust and forming a horrible pile of goo on the plate before I could even get it to my mouth it sucked. —AnonEmuss
2005-10-25 21:52:48 I love Woodstock's, but at around $2.90 a slice these days, I'm honestly just not sure how often I'll be back..... —TerraSmithers
2005-11-09 21:01:12 Don't try to have a potluck here. Even if you are a paying customer, they crack down on most of your stuff. Especially outside sodas. —GabeKoulikov
2005-11-13 15:47:10 GabeKoulikov, maybe you shouldn't try to have a potluck at any restaurant, ya knucklehead. Their private space exists to serve food they sell you, not so you can hang out with your friends, make a mess and leave. If you want to have a potluck, try your house or a public park. —JeffSpeckles
2005-11-13 15:42:43 Great food, great atmosphere, great employees. But their employees really suck at sloshball. I mean, 20 runs down in the 6th inning? Pathetic. :P :P :P —JeffSpeckles
2006-01-24 20:11:01 Just so you know, though the Wiki does say that delivery is free, it's not. There is the usual $1.50 delivery charge. I have no problem with that because it goes to those hard working drivers we know and love. However, I do have a problem with the fact that they don't tell you about it when your order. —RenoKing
2006-02-22 23:03:19 I'm surprised I haven't left a comment on this place. I only recently visited, though. Woodstocks reminds me of what a quintessential college pizza place would look like. I kind of expected something a little more upscale after all the hype. That said, I loved it. If I wasn't on a water flush I would have tried one of their pale ales. My friend and I ate pizza by the slice. I never knew how cheap this place was! I'm totally into the whole unlimited slices/soda thing. When I'm really freaking hungry, I'll definitely be coming back and milking it for all it's worth. —SaulSugarman
2006-03-03 23:44:33 Do they offer soy cheese pizzas? —JosephBleckman - Soy isn't cheese. -KJM
2006-03-29 14:18:58 I really gotta say, If you're from the east coast and prefer east coast pizza, Woodstock's is gonna suck really hard. Awful crust, too much sauce, WAY too expensive. Try little caesar's $6 for a large: it sucks significantly less, at about half woodstock's prices. —PaulLimb -That's a good point Paul. Cheap pizza is still pizza, but it really sucks to pay woodstock prices for a mediocre pizza.
2006-03-29 17:45:44 This is a great place to take friends, though the only complaint that I have is that in the extended area, the seats near the restrooms reek of urinal cakes...it sucks when the place is packed and while waiting a long time for the food your appetite is lost by the raunchy smell. Other than that, it's my favorite pizza place in Davis. —JoeyBennett
2006-05-11 02:06:55 The cinnabread with apples and almonds is hella good... —ChrisLee -thats like hella cool. Did you take THE 80 to get there?
2006-06-22 00:08:54 OK pizza. Of the many pizza places in Davis, I would place it on the shortlist of places that make REAL pizza (Steves, Lampost), but it is way overpriced and not all that good. Village Bakery makes a much better pizza at a more reasonable price. One nice thing about woodstock is that they are open late. —DudeNude
2006-07-05 15:19:23 The quality of WS pizzas are okay. However, my boyfriend and I just are fans of their Spicy-Breaded chicken wings — absolutely mouth-watering. —KristyDai
2006-09-02 20:00:42 My friends and I only eat woodstocks pizza, we love it, and its our usual haunt, I was so disapointed when they go tnew ovens because I wanted pizza and they had closed early that day, hopefully the new ovens make the pizza even better than it already is! —JoeRunnels
2007-01-16 21:57:49 Greatest Pizza in Davis, However some of their employees have a bad attitude, im not gonna name names... Anyone else notice that? —JosephStevens
2007-02-28 18:53:45 It's pizza. Yay! —BriannaBetancourt
2007-03-18 20:41:56 Two nights ago, I got an order delivered... the food was good but the person who delivered it to me was very rude. She called me three times in one minute to tell me to come down. When I left a ten percent tip on the recipt, she scowled at me and asked for her pen. I told her to have a good night despite all this and she just ignored me and got in her car... seriously, i understand for drivers, time is money, but calling me three times in such a short space to tell me to hurry is simply NOT nice. Above all what's with being rude and mad at me for my tip? She wasn't bussing my table or being a waiter, she was simply delivering it to me. It makes me feel as though I shouldn't have left a tip at all for her! However, other drivers in the past have always been kind and courteous to me :/ i guess it was just one bad experience? or she was having a bad night... —CalvinCheng
2007-04-11 23:19:33 You're right CalvinCheng, she sounds rude. However "simply delivering it to you" is more difficult than being a waiter. While the customer is never expected to tip, delivering pizza isn't easy. Drivers are usually hustling from 7pm till closing time. Each drive out involves delivering several orders while figuring out the most time efficient route. We also have to pay our own gas costs which can really eat up a paycheck. Granted, we chose this job. Most of us delivery drivers find it kinda fun and challenging, but tipping the driver is a great way to make sure your pizza is always delivered first and made just right. —DaveCar
2007-04-14 11:52:59 I travel quite a bit and I am amazed when I tell people I from the Woodland/Davis area how many of them know of, talk of, rave about Woodstock's!! I agree with all of them. This is the best pizza in the region!! —rpatte
2007-04-14 12:10:26 Woodstock's is great but if you want to try a pretty authentic NY style pizza try Giovanni's in Natomas. —rpatte
2007-04-14 19:24:05 1 and half hours for a pizza said the guy. waited for three. all the toppings sloshed to one side of my garlic bird which was cold, and not even ready after three hours when i went to pick it up. Trash. Lime chili not so chicken breast on bagel dough with hardly garlic mayo and huge uncoked out of season tomatoes. trash. Woods is good when other people order but i got the shaft. UNcool woodstocklioni. just because im not in SAMMIes or stoned doesn't mean i dont appreciate food. —oxnardmalfoy - dude you posted this on picnic day... was this incident ON picnic day? ONE OF OUR BUSIEST DAYS OF THE YEAR. —DamarisTobar
2007-04-30 16:30:19 I've eaten here a couple times and honestly, Steves Pizza is way better —CindyBanh
2007-05-26 20:22:01 There's a cool sketch of the Band-uh on a big poster on one of the walls here. Apparently, the drawing was done by a band alumnus from the 80s. Can anyone verify? I've also heard that there's one on campus (maybe Dutton Hall) of the same drawing, or something similar, but I haven't been able to find it for the life of me. Any leads? A similar drawing (I'm convinced it's the same guy) has a drawing in the Cal (Berkeley) band's centennial coffee table book... —EddieKim
Band member Steve Schuman did both the CAMB and Cal Band posters. There were a bunch reprinted in the late 90s. Should be one or two copies hanging around the Band Room if you want a closer look—it's pretty funky when you look at the details. —RussBowlus
2007-06-09 18:59:55 Great Pizza when you're there, for some reason delivered and to go the pizza loses its soul. The Pesto Primavera is awesome But substitute the broccoli. The cinnebread is good too. —heyitsdimo
2007-07-01 19:01:01 I just ate there a few days ago after not eating there for over a year. Nothing has changed. With half the employees high all the time, and the other half screwing around, just imagine what else gets into your pizza that you don't want. No thank you. —Anonymous
2007-07-19 18:44:42 Only good slices everything else sucks bad employees dirty and mostly rude there been one time where someone was nice take your tip cup and stick it up or trash can —dickjones
2007-08-05 18:24:29 Decent pizza and they're open late... but God forbid you actually order something in the evening. I've been charged for non-existent toppings 3 times in a row now (apparently, uncooked tomatoes is a difficult thing to remember on a pizza). My friend was charged for a soft, gooey UNDERCOOKED pizza, and when she called to complain they told her that next time she "should just order it well-done." So be warned: apparently, you need to request that your food be cooked all the way through. Terrible attitudes = terrible pizza. —Chronoz
2007-08-12 19:44:35 Nice place. Just moved here and was really impressed with very nice bartenders, bouncers, and friendly folks. Didn't try the pizza, but the beer and atmosphere are pretty cool. —Casey
2007-08-20 10:24:31 They were friendly and the pizza was great! I loved the Peanut Butter Pie! A muchie paradise! —Erin
2007-09-09 23:06:07 Tried the pizza this evening. Excellent. Lighter than Steve's. The wait's kind of shitty, but what can you do? It was fresh and great though. —Casey
2007-10-12 02:23:06 I am very disappointed in Woodstock's. They don't do the pepperonis touching anymore and their large pizza is 17 bucks for ten slices. —JackkiCox
2007-10-15 23:45:58 Totally disgusted with quality and service. You have to call way in advance if you plan on getting delivery in a speedy fashion in the evening. Had a delivery person give me guff when I apologized that I didn't have enough for a proper tip. Ridiculously overpriced too. Woodstocks is garbage. I just eat frozen pizzas now. Cheaper, tastier, and more convienient. —RobertSooHoo
2007-10-26 16:49:30 Will Woodstock's teach me how to throw the dough balls if I make them? That's what I really want to know. —RussellMcCandless
2007-10-28 22:53:37 If you really want to get your money's worth here, you have to go for their night owl special or for their lovely lunch special. I absolutely loved their lunch special! Their artichoke spinach pizza is to die for, and their cheese and pepperoni are delicious as well. They make their crusts all folded in a way my boyfriend loves, and they use a nice blend of herbs on their sauce. The people working there are also very friendly, and the service is good. Don't forget to take a look at the adorable dragon on the wall! See you there! —AnnaF
2007-11-03 17:20:45 Woodstocks is my favorite pizza in davis. I prefer it over Steve's, Lampost, Pizza Guys, and even (gasp!) Village Bakery and Symposium pizza. I've been going there for 6 years and have never been disappointed in quality. The pizza, wildebread and cinnabread are all fantastic. The bbq bird, firebird, and pesto primavera pizzas are particularly amazing. The employees definitley have somewhat of a "davis-scene" vibe going but they've always been pretty cool to me - never rude or particulary un-friendly. I'm also a big fan of their beer selection and general bar atmosphere, which is usually quiet enough for group conversations (save for pint nights) and relaxed. Too many woodstocks haters on here, this is a great place. —JakeJames
2007-11-05 16:43:33 I don't understand why so many people are complaining about Woodstock's. It's an awesome place! —Lynn
2007-11-05 17:20:08 I ordered 2 pizzas last night and had a "Buy 1 get 1 Free" coupon. I gave them the coupon number over the phone and he gave me the total. When I went to pick it up, the cashier asked me if I had the coupon for him, I told him no. He said "I absolutely must have the coupon" in order to give me the deal. He told me it says it right on the coupon. I offered to show him the coupon on my phone, and he said he "absolutely must have it in my hand" — Well, I get home and I look again, and the coupon merely says "Please mention coupon # when ordering."
That pissed me off. —PatrickFish
2007-11-06 23:44:49 Yeah the buy one get one coupons...you TOTALLY need the coupon. There is no consistency with the employees, I would know. You need to show the coupon because you could mention the number like everytime you get pizza, but not actually have a coupon. You're getting a pizza for free, not like 3 bucks off, you know? —DamarisTobar
2007-11-07 14:56:28 Yeah, I know...but it should say that on the coupon, not to "Please mention" it. —PatrickFish
2008-02-08 13:12:22 We welcome feedback at Woodstock's Pizza. We strive to do our best, but we're human. 2008-03-25 23:05:50 Some of the worst pizza I have ever had. There was no crust under the pizza and there was too much crust on the outside. The pizza also did not taste good. I was really disappointed after hearing such good things about this place. I prefer Steve's any day of the week. —BrandonBarrette
2008-04-09 10:12:11 The only time I eat this pizza, like most people, is when there's nothing else to eat on a drunken night. The sauce accumulates around the crust, and it tastes BAD. The ingredients can't cover up the nasty sauce taste. Any other pizza is better from what I can tell. —Kiran
2008-04-19 22:00:44 I'm not sure I will ever go here again — I definitely won't order a take-out pizza on a Sat night again. Long wait, huge crowd of rude undergrads (somebody pushed me and stepped on my foot as I was waiting to go in), pizza expensive and didn't taste good. Usually I go to Steve's, which is much tastier with a more grown-up clientele. —AmandaSmith
2008-04-21 02:31:19 At first, when I ordered here, I didnt know what I was doing and thought I hated this place. But after a while this has become some of the best pizzas i ever tasted.
I am not sure, but I never had the option of choosing whether I wanted wheat dough or white flower. But im glad they have the option. and i LOVE how the sauce accumulates under the crust. It makes the crust that much more flavorable. The chocolate pies are amazing, but there is so much chocolate, it could know down an elephant. I highly do not recommend orderign anything smaller than a large pizza, otherwise its not worth it as much. They do give student's discount which is nice and support local communities at times. —chand3123k
2008-04-21 02:33:41 Hmmm, I also have a question. Are there different chefs for this restaurant? I do feel like there are slight differences between each pizza everytime we order. —chand3123k
2008-04-27 23:52:05 pizza is pretty good~ but, the cheese ALWAYS fall off for some reason. The pizza sauce is pretty good too.. a bit salty, then tangy, then spicy.
the lunch buffet is worth the price... you can get like 1-3 slices per plate cause they don't want you to waste extra slices. The customer service is pretty good, the food is good... —xcutioners
2008-05-05 00:59:27 On the side note, my friend ordered a pizza like 11:30pm Sunday night and we were hungry. Called up woodstocks, ordered a large cheese pizza, and got everything ready.
Guess what? We waited for almost an hour until I mentioned to my friend about the pizza. He called woodstocks and asked for a pizza-delivery trace; the person said that the pizza was never made..
wtf —xcutioners
2008-05-13 23:52:42 My husband and I go here about every Thursday. They have an awesome and entertaining beer selection— something new every time we go there. And we LOVE the PIZZA. I always ask for extra cheese cause it totally makes it better. The crust is REAL crust, and sometimes I just start cutting that off and eating it without the pizza. The salads are okay, though not as good as Steve's Place salad bar. The apple cinnimon pizza is just okay, but rather just tastes like canned apples in cinnamon on a mound of dough and lots of sugar. But seriously, I think Woodstocks has the best pizza in town. —JamieParker
2008-06-23 15:34:32 the dessert pies would be better without so much dough.
2008-06-27 15:03:29 Pizza is great... Employees are horrible. They once kicked us out because they thought we were giving beer to minors... no! Also, they used physical force to kick out my friend because they thought he punched a pregnant African American lady... no he didn't! Also, I swear that one guy was about to get a magnifying glass or a microscope to check my I.D. because he was staring at it for so long... get real guys. —aberrier
2008-06-27 23:34:10 I wasn't really digggin' their pizza at all. Too much cheese. Super uber de duper greasy pepperoni. Sauce is good though. Their crust is meh. I don't think I'll be coming back. —MissAmyQ
2008-07-05 19:41:09 Way overrated. It comes off as the premier pizza place in Davis. In reality it's a little bit above the median. Definitely better than Cenario's, and Domino's but doesn't compare to Symposium, Village Bakery or Papa Murphy's. I realy don't get what the big deal is with this place. Are they selling crack in the bathrooms? —JimBob
-
Really? Papa Murphy's? I understand if you are talking about price, but in terms of quality woodstocks is wayyy better. —JakeJames
2008-08-25 22:08:14 Had some Woodstock's Pizza today. It was the most overrated, overhyped, and overpriced pizza I've ever had. I was thoroughly unsatisfied with it. And their lunch buffet selection? Cheese, Mushroom, Pepperoni, and Pizza-of-the-Day. Pathetic. And they couldn't even get the simple cheese pizza correct. The first bite tasted like Chuck-E-Cheese pizza, but got worse and worse...I didn't know that was possible. And, man, you should've seen those pepperonis curled up to form a bowl full of grease. They don't even replace the pizza until every slice of every selection of pizza is gone. Then you have to wait 10 minutes for it to be restocked. Cuts into the mere 2 hours the buffet is served, assuming you have the time to stay for two entire hours. I find it unimaginable that people would put down $2.50 for just one slice of their pizza. I'd rather spend $2.30 on a slice of MU pizza. Cheaper, a million times tastier, and they sure as heck don't hold back on the toppings.
I also had to swat away a couple flies.
Never paying for Woodstock's Pizza willingly ever again.
On the other hand, watching that one guy toss the pizza dough in the air was pretty cool. —TheShah
