Nonviolent Communication: Honest and Compassionate Connection
Time: 8:00 PM (US/Pacific) Location: 355 Second St, Pilates for Bodies StudioA great class for both beginners and advanced students; we’re going to explore the components of NVC: observation, feelings, needs, requests, and empathy through experiential learning. By the end of the course you’ll not only know the tools to diffuse fights, but you’ll also have the experience and confidence to use them. These skills will help you turn conflicts into opportunities to come closer together. With more compassionate communication you’ll have less stress and frustration in your relationships. Come learn about some new, and powerful, communication tools.
Here’s how a former student described the class “[It] helped me to analyze my anger and sadness and realize that I have an option of taking a different path than the one I habitually take.” And another student, Michael Preston, commented after the class “I can’t tell you how many times I find myself using the techniques of this class to resolve conflicts with my partner and friends.”
The class will be on Wednesday nights starting at 8 pm. It’ll run for 7 weeks from June 19th – July 31st. The Pilates for Bodies studio is located at 355 Second St. The cost is $45. Registration is
open

Putah Creek Council's CreekSpeak
Time: 7:00 PM (US/Pacific) Location: DavisJoin Putah Creek Council’s second CreekSpeak talk of 2013 on June 20, 2013, PLEASANTS CREEK: A TRIBUTARY TALE
The 7 PM talk at the Veterans Memorial Theater Club Room, 203 E 14th St. in Davis, will explain the past successes and future goals of a project to stop erosion on Pleasants Creek, a tributary of Putah Creek.
For more than 10 years, landowners, local conservation agencies, and volunteers have been helping to protect Pleasants Creek from erosion by planting natives, removing invasive arundo, and building rock weirs. Hear how these measures have protected adjacent properties, and resulted in better water quality in Pleasants Creek, and in downstream Putah Creek and Lake Solano. Rich will explain the goals for upcoming work on the creek and the opportunities for further collaborations.
Rich Marovich, Putah Creek Streamkeeper, has been awarded "Restorationist of the Year" by the Salmonid Restoration Foundation for his work in the Putah Creek watershed.
CreekSpeak is Putah Creek Council’s six-month series of community talks about the nature, culture, and history of our region.
CreekSpeak talks are free to Putah Creek Council members and open to the public. A $5 donation is requested from those who have not-yet joined the Council.

Volunteer at Native Plant Nursery
Time: 8:30 AM (US/Pacific) Location: DavisJune 25th, 2013 8:30 AM through 11:30 AM
Please join us for a nice morning with other like-minded people who are interested in native plants and caring for our watershed. Nursery tasks vary from event to event but typically include transplanting, weeding, watering, trimming, and other tasks as necessary.
Putah Creek Council, in partnership with Lower Putah Creek Coordinating Committee, grows a variety of native plants for use in our habitat enhancement project sites throughout the Putah Creek watershed.
All plants in the nursery are propagated from seeds and cuttings taken from plants growing in the Putah-Cache basin. All plants are propagated, transplanted, weeded, and otherwise cared for by community volunteers - just like you!
Nursery events are held at CALFIRE's Lewis Moran Reforestation Facility at 5800 Chiles Road in Davis. Registration link and map with directions are below.
Why are we growing the plants?
During the rainy season, December - April, plants from the nursery will be planted along Putah Creek in hedgerows or mass plantings to create wildlife habitat, attract pollinators beneficial to agriculture, and improve water quality by preventing erosion and illegal vehicle trespass.
California Native Plants
The nursery inventory is vast and always changing, but a few of our favorite natives are toyon, coffeeberry, California wild rose, mugwort, box elder, Oregon ash, white alder, coyote brush and mulefat.
Nursery Rules
Volunteers age 14 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes. No running, no dogs. Drinking water is provided in the potting shed, do not drink water from any tap or spigot.
Volunteers must register here:

Discovery Art: Momentum, Opening Reception
Time: 3:00 PM (US/Pacific) Location: Davis Art Center
Join us as we explore momentum, and the creative explosion that happens when Art meets Science. Come play with things that walk, fly, roll, swing, slide, and dance. We’ll be investigating physical momentum and things that move—flying creatures, bikes, roller coasters, mobiles, Rube Goldberg machines, a pendulum made from soccer balls, spirographs, and more!
We’ll also look at momentum in culture and community—as in the development and growth of social movements created by people. We challenge you to consider how small changes in your everyday life can lead to big impacts. What do you believe in, and how can you make it happen? Why do things move, and how can they make art?

Note: You must be logged in to post an event.
This is the place to post community events! Just enter text as you would into the wiki. Try to use links to the pages associated with venues, etc (so if you say "Davis Music Scene" you should make that into a link, ["Davis Music Scene"]). This makes it easier for people to find out more information on the organization, etc. You can easily delete the event after posting it (if you make a mistake, etc). Note that this page is not intended for businesses to notify people about sales events.
Tips: You must be logged in to post an event. Include the event description, the location, start and end dates, start and end times, the cost (or note if free), and a link to further information/contact. Post a week (or more) in advance, if possible (but less than 3 months in advance). Events are assumed to be open to the public unless otherwise noted.
Images: To include a picture you must link to the picture externally (meaning it has to be hosted on some other website). Then just paste in the url of the image in brackets. So if the image is at http://site.com/pict.jpg you would put [http://site.com/pict.jpg]. Feel free to include a flyer/other photo. (Just be sure to type the information too!) Note: Although your images can be of any size, Please be courteous and respectful and do not post unnecessarily large images. Keep in mind that some people view the board on laptops with small screens and images larger than will fit on a screen defeat their purpose. If your images are larger than approx. 800x600, use one of the free resizing services (
