Joel Davis is a freelance journalist who researched and published "Justice Waits: The UC Davis Sweetheart Murders" (Callister Press, $24.95, 220 pages). The book is about the 1980 unsolved murders of UC Davis students John Riggins and Sabrina Gonsalves and thanks in part to his dogged research, a suspect was identified in June 2004: Richard Joseph Hirschfield, a man who had served time for child molestation.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Davis suffers from Parkinson's Disease, which he fought during the five-year writing process of the book. An Aggie interview with Joel Davis can be found here.
On page 147 of “Justice Waits,” a Coroner’s form for returning deceased’s property addressed to the father, Richard Riggins, in Davis is addressed to ZIP 95841. Unfortunately, that ZIP is for the Foothills Farm region of Sacramento; the correct ZIP for said Davis address is 95616. Did this form make it’s way to the addressee? Is this kind of error typical of our county government?
