John Bowes was superintendent for Davis JUSD from 2016 to 2021, following the departure of Winfred Roberson. Bowes served as a teacher and administrator in the Los Angeles Unified School District prior his appointment as Assistant Superintendent in 2014 at the Palos Verdes Verdes Unified School District. In 2021 he left Davis JUSD to become superintendent at the Manhattan Beach Unified School District in southern California. Bowes' college education includes an undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and graduate degrees from California Lutheran University and UCLA. During his tenure, Bowes oversaw the passage of two school parcel taxes and the Measure M school bond measure.
