Margaret Brooks, DJUSD Trustee, from 1946 to 1955, with daughter, Audrey, and baby EmilyMargaret H. Brooks (born 1900, Milton, Massachusetts; died 18 February 1995, Davis, California) was the first woman elected as a trustee to the Davis school board in 1946 and served until 1955. She graduated from Smith College with Phi Beta Kappa honors, studied at the London School of Economics, and received her master's degree from University of California, Berkeley. She earned a Ph.D. in government from the Brookings Institute in Washington, D.C. in 1929. Around this time she taught at Barnard College in New York City.

She married Frederick Brooks and moved with him to Davis in 1931 when he became professor in the agricultural engineering department. Ms. Brooks became very involved with the civic life of Davis, including work with the League of Women Voters, the Tremont Mite Society, Davis Friends Meeting, Davis Unitarian Fellowship.
