The Dirt, Davis (2020, Ashley Muir Bruhn)
The Davis Dirt is a free monthly arts and events calendar for the City of Davis. It is available in print as well as online. The print was suspended during the pandemic, from April 2020-November 2022. The Dirt lists local events for free on the monthly calendar. The espoused mission of The Dirt is to showcase Davis’ & Yolo County’s unique people, places & events, inspiring readers & promoting local arts, culture & community. The publisher requests "If you enjoy the Davis Dirt, please thank the advertisers for making it possible."
Hosts are encouraged to submit events at thedirt.online for free listings. Events submitted before the 23rd of the month can be included in the next month's issue.
The Davis Dirt was founded in October 2010 by four local women who noticed the lack of a single, comprehensive resource listing the daily options for in-town entertainment. It originally appeared as a quarter-fold, newsprint calendar.
In October 2019, The Davis Dirt was purchased by publisher Ashley Muir Bruhn, shortly before celebrating its 10-year anniversary. As publisher, she rebranded the publication The Dirt, recognizing the larger Yolo community and including more events from surrounding towns like Winters, Woodland, and Capay.
In March 2020, Muir Bruhn published the first issue of The Dirt in its new, larger, all-color tabloid format; unveiled a new website; and added articles and stories to the paper’s regular calendar content. She also added the option to subscribe to a weekly newsletter in December 2022. (Subscribe: bit.ly/3EOvcfd) The publication maintains social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and, to a lesser extent, Twitter.

The print publication paused during the pandemic, but returned in December 2022. PDFs of Issues can be found online at issuu.com/thedirt.online.
The City of Davis awarded Muir Bruhn and arts grant to restart the printing of The Dirt in December 2022.
The Dirt Davis (Dec 2022, Ashley Muir Bruhn)
On June 1, 2012, The Davis Dirt hosted the first ever Street Food Rodeo - a roundup of the best street food vendors from our area. Davisites are craving innovative, fresh & affordable street food, and The Dirt is answering their call. With food trucks, live music, face painting, hay bale seating, and free admission, what's not to love! Plus, this event is also a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Davis School Garden Program - helping kids stay in touch with where real food comes from.
